COVID-19 Guidelines: OMAHA is committed to creating a safe environment for our members. We follow the best available science to protect the health of everyone who attends our events. If you have questions about our COVID guidelines and protocols, please reach out to a member of the board. We look forward to the day when we can all gather together without the risk of spreading this deadly virus, until then, help us limit the spread of COVID-19 by doing your part to minimize the virus's transmission.

First Friday’s Humanist Happy Hour

The first Friday of every month is OMAHA’s social gathering known as the “Humanist Happy Hour.” It is an opportunity to gather with other Humanists for dinner, drinks, and general discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.

Discussions often range from the latest domestic and international news, to science, religion, humanism, and Nebraska’s ever-changing weather. If you hunger for intelligent discussion but are equally satisfied with pizza and beer, then this is the event for you! We’ll do our best to provide the former, but are confident you’ll enjoy the latter!

The location of this event can vary, so be sure to check our Meetup page and RSVP so we make sure to save you a seat.

Secular Cinema Series

Join us for our “Secular Cinema” series where we’ll present films intended to provoke thought and encourage debate. Some films will challenge traditional religious thought, some will explore Humanism, while others will investigate social issues on topics including the environment, equal rights, poverty, domestic violence, and terrorism. Following the film, attendees are invited to join us at a nearby eatery for dinner, drinks, and discussion.

Our Secular Cinema series is free and open to the public. For specific details on the next event, please head to our Meetup page.

Science Café

As part of our commitment to lifelong learning, OMAHA regularly attends the science cafés arranged by the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Science cafés are designed to make science approachable to everyone. Science cafés take place in casual settings, like pubs or coffeehouses, and are open to everyone 21 and older. Topics are discussed in plain language and organizers work to ensure an inclusive atmosphere that is welcoming to those with no science background. Each science café is organized around an interesting topic. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a question and answer period.

Science cafés are held once or more each month at the Slowdown Pub at 729 N. 14th Street in Omaha. Our Meetup page will have information on the next event, along with information on how to find our group.
